Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas
Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas
Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) on Wednesday launched a verbal barrage on the ceasefire deal reached with the Hamas terrorist organization the night before."It is forbidden to make peace with Hamas, and as long as Hamas exists it's impossible to make peace," wrote Liberman on his Facebook page. "As long as Hamas rules in Gaza, it is impossible to ensure the security of Israeli citizens, and impossible to reach a peace agreement."Liberman was one of at least four ministers on the Security Cabinet who voice opposition to the ceasefire deal; joining him was Gilad Erdan (Likud), Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home), and Yitzchak Aharonovich (Yisrael Beytenu). Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu skirted a Cabinet vote on the deal through a legality, avoiding the strong opposition.In fact, according to Liberman, all six Yisrael Beytenu ministers oppose any ceasefire deal with Hamas and call on Israel not to give the terrorist group any achievements as a reward for its terror war on Israel."It's impossible, and we must not, rely on lowly murderers," Liberman said of Hamas. This was an unnecessary round of violence between us and the Palestinians - the Hamas in Gaza - that brought only misery and suffering on both sides, without any significant cause, without any significant effect."Nevertheless Steinitz, a close associate of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, rejected the interviewer's assertion that the operation was a "strategic failure" for Israel, noting that the goal was to protect Israel's citizens."If we now will have a long ceasefire, and if we did resume our deterrence capacity vis-a-vis Hamas and similar organizations, then we achieved our goal," remarked the minister.However, he noted that any possible benefits in terms of security came at a very "heavy price.""We paid a very expensive price with 70 casualties on our side, with people that have to flee their homes in the south of Israel because of the daily barrages of rockets and mortars. Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service attended to 842 civilian casualties during 50 days of Operation Protective Edge, as terrorists in Gaza showered rockets and mortars on Israeli population centers.That number included five fatalities, and 37 people suffering various degrees of injury from rocket shrapnel. Of those, one was classified as "critically" wounded, 10 others as "serious", six as "moderate" and 20 as "light".MDA treated a further 33 people for injuries sustained from glass or collapsing buildings, 18 people injured in traffic accidents as they rushed to find shelter during air raid sirens - one of whom was injured seriously, and the rest of whom were treated for moderate to light wounds - and a further 159 people injured by falling or in other accidents on the way to bomb shelters.Nine other people were injured in other acts of terrorism during that period, including one man who was moderately injured in a stabbing attack in Maaleh Adumim.Seven other casualties were attended to in the aftermath of the "tractor terror" attack in Jerusalem earlier this month, including a 25-year-old man who died from his injuries.A 20-year-old soldier who was shot and seriously wounded in a terror attack near Mount Scopus on the same day was also attended to by MDA paramedics.Magen David Adom CEO Eli Bin praised his teams "who work tirelessly and stood on high alert throughout the operation, who even today worked under fire, and provided rapid and professional care to casualties in various arenas."Bin called on Israelis to continue listening to directives issued by the Home Front Command, and to use the emergency 101 hotline to contact paramedics in case of an emergency.He also issued his condolences to the families of those killed, and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.
