Greek police evacuate hundreds from Idomeni refugee camp-[The Canadian Press]-Costas Kantouris, The Associated Press-May 24, 2016-yahoonews

IDOMENI, Greece - Greek authorities sent hundreds of police into the country's largest informal refugee camp Tuesday to support the gradual evacuation of the Idomeni site on the Macedonian border. The left-led government has pledged that police will not use force, and says the operation is expected to last about a week to 10 days. Journalists were blocked from covering inside the campBy about midday 23 buses carrying a total 1,110 people had left Idomeni, heading to new refugee camps in northern Greece, police said, while earth-moving machinery was used to clear abandoned tents. No violence was reported.Vicky Markolefa, a representative of the Doctors Without Borders charity, said the operation was proceeding "very smoothly" and without incident. "We hope it will continue like that," she said. The camp, which sprang up at an informal pedestrian border crossing for refugees and migrants heading north to wealthier European nations, was home to an estimated 8,400 people — including hundreds of children — mostly from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.At its peak, when Macedonia shut its border in March, the camp housed more than 14,000, but numbers have declined as people began accepting authorities' offers of alternative places to stay.In Geneva, UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards said the evacuation appeared to be taking place "calmly," and the U.N. refugee agency was sending more staffers to Idomeni."As long as the movement of people from Idomeni is ... voluntary in nature (and) that we're not seeing use of force, then we don't have particular concerns about that," he said."It often does help move people into more organized sites, when they're willing to move to those places," he added. In Idomeni, most have been living in small camping tents pitched in fields and along railroad tracks, while aid agencies have set up large marquee-style tents to help house people. Greek authorities have sent in cleaning crews regularly and have provided portable toilets, but conditions have been precarious at best, with heavy rain creating muddy ponds.Recently the camp had begun taking on an image of semi-permanence, with refugees setting up small makeshift shops selling everything from cooking utensils to falafel and bread.More than 54,000 refugees and migrants have been trapped in financially struggling Greece since countries further north shut their land borders to a massive flow of people escaping war and poverty at home. Nearly a million people have passed through Greece, the vast majority arriving on islands from the nearby Turkish coast. In March, the European Union reached an agreement with Turkey meant to stem the flow and reduce the number of people undertaking the perilous sea crossing to Greece, where many have died when their overcrowded, unseaworthy boats sank. Under the deal, anyone arriving clandestinely on Greek islands from the Turkish coast after March 18 faces deportation to Turkey unless they successfully apply for asylum in Greece. But few want to request asylum in the country, which has been struggling with a deep, six-year financial crisis that has left unemployment hovering at around 24 per cent.Journalists were barred from the camp during the evacuation operation. An estimated 700 police were participating in the operation.Greek authorities are also eager to reopen a railway line — the country's main freight train line to the Balkans — that runs through the camp and has been blocked by protesting camp residents since March 20.Anastassios Saxpelidis, a spokesman for Greek transport companies, said Tuesday that the 66-day closure has cost transporters about 6 million euros.Giorgos Kyritsis, a government spokesman on immigration, said the line should open "in coming days."The government has been trying for months to persuade people to leave Idomeni and go to organized camps. This week it said its campaign of voluntary evacuations was already working, with police reporting that eight buses carrying about 400 people left Idomeni Sunday. Others took taxis heading to Thessaloniki or a nearby town of Polycastro. On the eve of the evacuation operation, few at the camp appeared to welcome the news."It's not good ... because we've already been here for three months and we'll have to spend at least another six in the camps before relocation," said Hind Al Mkawi, a 38-year-old refugee from Damascus, told The Associated Press on Monday evening.Abdo Rajab, a 22-year-old refugee from Raqqa in Syria, has spent the past three months in Idomeni, and is considering paying smugglers to be sneaked into Germany."We hear that tomorrow we will all go to camps," he said. "I don't mind, but my aim is not reach the camps but to go Germany."

Drop in deaths in Mediterranean is hopeful sign, migration body says-[Reuters]-By Stephanie Nebehay-May 24, 2016-YAHOONEWS

GENEVA (Reuters) - Fewer migrants are dying as they try to cross the Mediterranean to Europe, which may reflect better management of refugee flows and swifter rescue operations, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Tuesday. So far this year 1,370 migrants and refugees have perished at sea, nearly 25 percent fewer than in the same period last year, IOM spokesman Joel Millman said. An estimated 191,134 people have arrived by boat so far this year in Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Spain. The death toll included 13 in May, none of them on the eastern Mediterranean route between Turkey and Greece, where arrivals have slowed to a trickle since the European Union struck an agreement with Turkey to get it to curb the flow. This compared with 95 deaths in May a year ago and 330 in May 2014. More than 3,770 people are estimated to have died in the whole of 2015, most of them by drowning after their flimsy, overloaded boats capsized."Obviously now that the Turkey-Greece route appears suspended for the time being, we hope that this is the beginning of a sound management policy of refugees and migrants who wish to make the crossing and don't take these enormous risks," Millman told a news briefing. Some 2,725 migrants were rescued attempting to reach Europe from Libya over the past 24 hours by various vessels, he said. IOM also had reports that Libya's coastguard had turned back 850 migrants.IOM has had greater access to Libya since a U.N.-backed national unity government was formed last month. The agency is helping to organise charter flights to repatriate sub-Saharan migrants who agree to take a package or receive a re-integration grant."Those are also key developments that indicate that it's possible, and I want to stress that it's possible, that the period of stark lethality that has been going on since 2013 may have run its course by now," Millman said. "Maybe we'll see a safer summer than we had anticipated a few weeks ago."(This story corrects the headline as IOM is an inter-governmental agency, not an NGO)(Reporting by Stephanie Nebehay; Editing by Mark Trevelyan)

Tens of thousands need aid after deadly cyclone pounds Bangladesh, Sri Lanka-[By Nita Bhalla]-May 24, 2016-YAHOONEWS

NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Tens of thousands of people in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka need aid including clean drinking water, dry food rations and medicines after a deadly cyclone hammered the South Asia region, aid agencies said on Tuesday. With wind speeds reaching 90 kph (56 mph) and heavy rains, cyclone Roanu struck Bangladesh on Saturday, after buffeting India and Sri Lanka in the Bay of Bengal - killing at least 120 people and affecting hundreds of thousands more in the region.Aid workers said Roanu's torrential rains triggered flooding, landslides and tidal surges mostly in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - ripping apart thousands of rickety homes, burying entire villages and inundating swathes of farmland."Tens of thousands of poor families will have lost most of their assets - not just their houses, but also their food stores, seasonal crops and vital livestock such as cows, goats and ducks," said Shakeb Nabi, Christian Aid's Bangladesh head."Access to food, safe drinking water, health supplies and sanitation materials is limited in some villages. Water points have been ruined, ground water contaminated and agricultural land destroyed."In Sri Lanka, where more than a week of heavy rains has triggered the worst flooding in 25 years, the United Nations said it was worried about the spread of diseases due to large amounts of standing water. The World Health Organization said there was an increased risk of vector borne diseases like malaria, water borne and diarrheal diseases, the bacterial disease leptospirosis, fungal diseases and acute respiratory infections."Prevention measures to combat such diseases are essential," it added.Roanu is the first cyclone of the season, which generally lasts from April to December, with severe storms often causing mass evacuations from coastal low-lying villages and widespread crop and property damage.-RUSHING IN RELIEF-Aid agencies in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka said they had begun distributing relief in the worst affected districts and foreign aid had started arriving in Sri Lanka from countries including India, Pakistan and Singapore.Half a million people have had their lives disrupted in Bangladesh's low-lying coastal areas such as Barisal and Chittagong, and over 255,000 people are affected in Sri Lankan districts including Kegalle, Gamapaha and the capital Colombo in the west."We have pre-positioned household materials and hygiene kits that we can dispatch to affected areas and distribute to communities in urgent need," said Senait Gebregziabher, country director for Plan International."These materials will be essential as children and families affected by the cyclone, particularly those forced to leave their homes, will most likely be seeking food, shelter, basic sanitation and access to clean water."Sri Lanka has reported 94 deaths and 107 people missing. Bangladesh said at least 24 people had died and India reported two deaths.U.N. emergency officials said Roanu also brought heavy rains and flooding to coastal eastern and southern India and western parts of Myanmar, but the impact was less severe.(Reporting by Nita Bhalla. Europe grows Galileo sat-nav system-[Agence France-Presse]-May 23, 2016-yahoonews

Paris (AFP) - Europe's Galileo sat-nav system, a rival to America's GPS, should move closer to operation with the launch Tuesday of a fresh pair of satellites to join a dozen already in space.Orbiters 13 and 14 are scheduled to blast off on a Russian Soyuz rocket from Europe's spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, at 0848 GMT.After a journey of nearly four hours, they should enter Earth orbit at an altitude of 23,522 kilometres (14,615 miles).Ultimately, the multi-billion-euro constellation is meant to comprise 24 operational satellites, providing navigation as well as search-and-rescue services.Another launch, this time of four orbiters on a single rocket, is expected to boost the constellation to 18 by year-end, allowing for Galileo to start providing usable signals."Thereafter, the system's precision will improve with every new satellite placed in orbit," said Jean-Yves Le Gall, head of France's CNES space agency.More modern than GPS, Galileo's high-tech instruments should allow it to provide a more precise signal."With GPS, we can see where a train is on a map of France, with Galileo we will know on which track it is," said Le Gall. But the project has been plagued by delays, technical glitches and budgetary difficulties. The launch of the seventh and eighth orbiters in March last year was about three months late to allow engineers time to probe an August 2014 mishap which sent satellites five and six into a lopsided orbit. The incident was blamed on frozen fuel pipes on the Soyuz rocket's fourth stage, called Fregat -- a problem the European Space Agency says has since been fixed. The launch of satellites five and six -- meant to have been the first fully operational Galileo orbiters -- had itself been delayed by more than a year due to "technical difficulties".The first four orbiters were hoisted in 2011 and 2012.Tuesday's launch, the seventh for Galileo, was a late addition to the schedule, in a bid to speed up deployment of the project funded by the European Commission, the European Union's executive body.It had budgeted some seven billion euros ($7.8 billion) for Galileo until 2020.The remaining satellites will be launched using a combination of Russian Soyuz rockets, which can take two into space at a time, and Europe's own Ariane 5 ES launcher, specially adapted to handle four.

India successfully tests small space shuttle-[The Canadian Press]-The Associated Press-May 24, 2016-YAHOONEWS

NEW DELHI - India has successfully tested its first small space shuttle as part of its efforts to make low-cost reusable spacecraft. The Indian Space Research Organization said the shuttle lifted off on a rocket from a launch pad in southern India on Monday and completed a successful 13-minute test flight.Space expert Pallava Bagla, who writes for science magazines, said the test paves the way for India to embark on low-cost space missions. He said the United States and some other countries have abandoned the use of winged reusable spacecraft, but India hopes to bring down the cost of access to space by 90 per cent by using reusable vehicles."In this flight, critical technologies such as autonomous navigation, guidance and control, reusable thermal protection system and re-entry mission management have been successfully validated," the space agency said in a statement.India hopes to become a player in the multibillion-dollar space launch market, and has successfully placed light satellites into orbit in recent years. It hopes eventually to send astronauts into space. In September 2014, it successfully guided a spacecraft into orbit around Mars. Only the United States, the former Soviet Union and the European Space Agency have been able to do that before.

Violent young Sun may have seeded life on Earth: study-[Agence France-Presse]-May 23, 2016-yahoonews

Paris (AFP) - Life on Earth may have sprung from bombardment by a youthful Sun lashing out with flares as potent as a thousand trillion exploding atomic bombs, a study suggested on Monday.Such violence may explain how Earth became hospitable to life about four billion years ago, when the planet, and its star, were much, much colder, a research team wrote in the journal Nature Geoscience. While the Sun was about a third fainter than it is today, it was likely much more tempestuous, they found.Repeated super-flares would have smashed nitrogen (N2) molecules in the atmosphere to yield a planet-warming greenhouse gas called nitrous oxide (N2O or "laughing gas"), as well as hydrogen cyanide, which produces amino acids -- the building blocks of proteins. While it is essential for all life, nitrogen in the form it would have existed in a young Earth's atmosphere is not chemically reactive, and needs to be transformed into more accessible forms.Very high temperatures can achieve this. The study was based on telescopic observations of other stars resembling our Sun in the first few hundred million years of life, as well as models of the chemistry of early Earth's atmosphere.Without an efficient greenhouse gas to trap the Sun's heat, "Earth would be a snowball rather than a wet and warm planet supporting life four billion years ago," study co-author Vladimir Airapetian explained. The new model "resolves the currently unresolved 'Faint Young Sun' paradox by efficient production of laughing gas in the lower Earth's atmosphere" at the time."Our model describes the 'cosmic' ingredient required to produce biological molecules of life," Airapetian told AFP by email. And it suggested that other planets subjected to similar violence by their star may have had similar outcomes."Geologic evidence suggests that Mars was also paradoxically warm and wet around the same time," planetary scientist Ramses Ramirez of the Carl Sagan Institute in New York noted in a comment on the study. It may have experienced "similar solar-atmospheric interactions" than Earth."The findings may have implications for the climates and potential biology of terrestrial exoplanets orbiting very young Sun-like stars, particularly stars with exceptionally high magnetic fluxes and very intense super stellar storms," said Ramirez.

Burning all fossil fuels would scorch Earth: study-[Agence France-Presse]-Marlowe Hood-May 23, 2016-YAHOONEWS

Bonn (AFP) - Using up all known fossil fuel reserves would render Earth even more unliveable than scientists had previously projected, researchers said on Monday.Average temperatures would climb by up to 9.5 degrees Celsius (17 degrees Fahrenheit) -- five times the cap on global warming set at climate talks in Paris in December, they reported. In the Arctic region -- already heating at more than double the global average -- the thermometer would rise an unimaginable 15 C to 20 C.Burning all known reserves of oil, gas and coal would inject about five trillion tonnes of heat-trapping carbon into the atmosphere, mainly in the form of carbon dioxide, a team wrote in the journal Nature Climate Change. This number -- about ten times the 540 billion tonnes of carbon emitted since the start of industrialisation -- would be reached near the end of the 22nd century if fossil fuel trends go unchanged, it added. Most of the UN climate science panel's projections for greenhouse gas emissions do not forecast beyond two trillion tonnes of carbon, more than enough to unleash a crippling maelstrom of rising seas, drought, heat waves and floods.Indeed, to have a better-than-even chance of holding global warming at 2 C (3.6 F), the total carbon budget -- including what has already been released -- is about one trillion tonnes, the UN has said. But extreme modelling scenarios cannot and should not be ignored, said the lead author of the study."It is relevant to know what would happen if we do not take actions to mitigate climate change," Kasia Tokarska, a doctoral student at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, told AFP.- High stakes -There was still no guarantee, she pointed out, that the 195 nations which forged the Paris Agreement will deliver on their collective pledge to hold global warming to under 2 C (3.6 F) by cutting back on fossil fuels.Negotiators reconvened in Bonn this week to start turning the landmark political deal into an operational plan, but have found themselves bogged down in procedural discussions."Policymakers need to have a clear view of what is at stake... if no meaningful climate policies are put in place," said Thomas Frolicher, an expert on environmental physics at the science and technology university ETH Zurich, in a comment on the study.Previous research had projected that Earth's temperature rise would slow down once the level of two trillion tonnes is reached -- beyond that threshold, the impact of additional carbon diminishes.Using up-to-date climate models, however, Tokarska and colleagues showed that much of this work had over-estimated the oceans' capacity to absorb the CO2 humans pumped into the air, along with the additional heat it generates."The ocean takes up heat more slowly under those conditions," offsetting the slowdown in temperature rise, she explained by email.Older models had projected that depleting fossil fuel reserves entirely would heat the planet by 4.3 C to 8.4 C. The new study revises this to between 6.4 C and 9.5 C.And there's another wild card.Even if humanity manages to drastically curb its use of oil, gas and coal, Nature could add massive amounts of greenhouse gases all by itself, scientists warn.Hundreds of billions of tonnes of carbon, mostly in the form of methane, are locked in the increasingly misnamed permafrost of the sub-Arctic region.Beyond a certain threshold -- and no one knows what that is -- global warming could irretrievably unlock these methane reserves.

Largest U.S. Water Reservoir Shrinks to Record Low Amid Major Drought-[Time]-Justin Worland-May 23, 2016-YAHOONEWS

The water in the largest reservoir in the U.S. has shrunk to the lowest level on record, following years of drought in California and surrounding states.Water levels at Lake Mead fell to 1,074 feet last week, down from an average of 1,084 feet in February, according to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The lake is currently at 37% of capacity, according to Bureau spokesperson Rose Davis. The region has suffered from a drought that has lasted more than a decade and the snowpacks that feed the lake—created during the Depression era—remain low. Recent images of the lake show just how far water levels have dropped with “bathtub ring” markings indicating the higher height of the reservoir. The manmade lake—located in Nevada and formed by the Hoover Dam—provides crucial water to parts of Arizona, Nevada and California, including the Los Angeles region. The federal government could implement emergency measures if the water level remains at 1,075 feet or below at the end of the year. Those measures would require reductions in water delivery to Nevada and Arizona, Davis says. California and Mexico would be exempt. But figures from the Bureau of Reclamation suggest that such measures may be unlikely with only a 10% chance of such a shortage in 2017. The agency expects the lake’s levels to drop to 1,071 feet over the summer during peak demand before rising to 1,078 at the end of the year. The record low water levels follow a year that brought some relief to drought-stricken California with rain and snow from El NiƱo. But, even as the state lifted some water restrictions last week, experts say that the U.S. southwest still faces extreme drought conditions.

Sanders: Democratic convention could be 'messy'-[The Canadian Press]-Ken Thomas, The Associated Press-May 24, 2016-YAHOONEWS

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia and his push to make the party more inclusive could get "messy" but asserts in an interview with The Associated Press: "Democracy is not always nice and quiet and gentle."The Vermont senator, campaigning Monday ahead of California's primary against Hillary Clinton, said his supporters hope the party will adopt a platform at the summer convention that reflects the needs of working families, the poor and young people, not Wall Street and corporate America.Sanders said he will "condemn any and all forms of violence" but his campaign was welcoming political newcomers and first-time attendees of party conventions. He said the Democratic Party faces a choice of becoming more inclusive or maintaining the status quo."I think if they make the right choice and open the doors to working-class people and young people and create the kind of dynamism that the Democratic Party needs, it's going to be messy," Sanders said."Democracy is not always nice and quiet and gentle but that is where the Democratic Party should go."Asked if the convention could be problematical, Sanders said: "So what? Democracy is messy. Everyday my life is messy. But if you want everything to be quiet and orderly and allow, you know, just things to proceed without vigorous debate, that is not what democracy is about."Sanders is vying for support ahead of California's June 7 primary, a day that also includes contests in Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota. Clinton has 271 more pledged delegates than Sanders and is just 90 delegates shy of clinching the nomination when the total includes superdelegates, the party officials and elected leaders who can support the candidate of their choice. Some Democrats have grown weary about the length of the primaries, worried that it could give Republican businessman Donald Trump a head start on the general election and make it more difficult for Democrats to unite behind a nominee. The issue gained attention when a recent Nevada Democratic convention turned raucous.Sanders said he was "bothered" by the portrayal of the Las Vegas convention, saying it did not turn violent as some media reports indicated. "There was rowdyism. There was booing, I think inappropriately by the way," he said. The senator spoke after the Democratic National Committee announced a 15-member platform drafting committee, which will write the first draft of the party platform. The panel includes allies of both candidates.Sanders said the platform process would be an "excellent time to educate the American people," saying it would allow the party to have a vigorous debate over ways to address wealth inequality, the role of Wall Street in the economy, climate change and universal health care."A serious debate about serious issues is good for democracy, is good for the Democratic Party. It will increase voter turnout and that always works in our effort to defeat Republicans," he said.He declined to entertain the possibility of being considered as Clinton's running mate, saying he was focused on winning the nomination. "If I don't, we will see what happens later on." But he reiterated that he would do "everything that I can" to ensure that Trump is not elected president.Sanders said he had a "shot" at winning the California primary against Clinton and said, given his delegate deficit, it was "imperative" that he perform well. He estimated his rallies around the state would allow him to speak directly to 200,000 voters before the primary."What happens if I win a major victory in California? Will people say, 'Oh, we're really enthusiastic about Hillary Clinton despite the fact that Bernie Sanders has now won whatever it may be, 25 states, half the states?'" he said.If that happens, he added, superdelegates "may rethink that. That is why you want the process to play out."Clinton's campaign said Monday she would not participate in a proposed California debate, choosing instead to campaign in the state. Sanders said at an evening rally in Santa Monica he was "disturbed but not surprised" that Clinton had "backed out" of the debate, which was part of an agreement the campaigns reached with the DNC earlier this year.Sanders also looked ahead to the future of his political movement, saying his goal was "the transformation of the Democratic Party. To be a party which is a grassroots party where the main energy comes from working families, from trade unionists, from environmentalists, from people today who want real political and social and economic and environmental changes in our society."__Follow Ken Thomas on Twitter: https://twitter.com/KThomasDC

Cosby arrives in court in Pennsylvania sex-assault case-[Associated Press]-Maryclaire Dale and Michael r. Sisak, Associated Press-May 24, 2016-YAHOONEWS

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- Bill Cosby arrived in court Tuesday for a key hearing on whether prosecutors have enough evidence to put the 78-year-old comedian on trial on charges he drugged and sexually assaulted a woman over a decade ago.Cosby walked into the Montgomery County courthouse on the arm of an aide, waving to people waiting outside. He looked healthier than he did when he was charged in December, and was not carrying a cane this time.It was not immediately known whether his accuser, Andrea Constand, would testify at the preliminary hearing or whether authorities would instead read her police statement into the record.Cosby is accused of molesting the former Temple University athletic department employee at his suburban Philadelphia mansion in 2004. The TV star known as America's Dad could get 10 years in prison if convicted of indecent sexual assault.Prosecutors said he gave Constand three unidentified blue pills, rendering her unable to cry out or resist.Cosby said it was consensual sexual activity.Prosecutors reopened the case last year after dozens of women leveled similar allegations and after Cosby's sealed deposition in Constand's lawsuit was made public. He settled her lawsuit for an undisclosed sum in 2006 after testifying about his extramarital affairs, his use of quaaludes to seduce women and his efforts to hide payments to former lovers from his wife. The disclosures and the barrage of allegations have all but destroyed Cosby's nice-guy image from TV's "Cosby Show."Cosby's lawyers are trying to get the case thrown out, arguing that a previous prosecutor a decade ago made a binding promise that the comic would never be charged. On Monday, Pennsylvania's Supreme Court rejected a request to delay the preliminary hearing while he pursues a dismissal.Cosby has not entered a plea since his Dec. 30 arrest. He is free on $1 million bail.He is also fighting defamation lawsuits across the country for allegedly branding his accusers liars and is trying to get his homeowner insurance to pay his legal bills.Constand is now a massage therapist in Toronto.

Cosby due in court in Pennsylvania sex-assault case-[The Canadian Press]-The Associated Press-May 24, 2016-YAHOONEWS

PHILADELPHIA - Bill Cosby is due in Pennsylvania court Tuesday morning for a key hearing in his criminal sex-assault case. The preliminary hearing will determine whether prosecutors have enough evidence to send the 78-year-old entertainer to trial.Cosby is accused of drugging and molesting former Temple University employee Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia mansion in 2004. Prosecutors said Constand was not only impaired, but unconscious after Cosby gave her three unidentified blue pills. Cosby said they engaged in consensual sexual activities, and that he was a friend and mentor to her.Prosecutors reopened the criminal case last year after dozens of women raised similar claims, and Cosby's deposition in Constand's lawsuit surfaced.Constand had gone to him for career advice. Cosby said he gave her the pills to address her stress. He settled her lawsuit for an undisclosed sum in 2006, after giving four days of testimony about his extramarital affairs, his pursuit of quaaludes to seduce women and his efforts to hide payments to former lovers from his wife. The confidential settlement bound both sides to secrecy, but a federal judge last year unsealed portions of Cosby's deposition on a petition from The Associated Press. The full deposition was later released by a court reporting service.Montgomery County prosecutors then reopened Constand's decade-old complaint last summer, after realizing the 12-year window for felony sexual assault had not yet run out.Cosby has not entered a plea since his Dec. 30 arrest. He would do so at a formal arraignment if the case is held for trial. He is being held on $1 million bail.Cosby also is fighting defamation lawsuits across the country for allegedly smearing accusers and is trying to get his homeowners' insurance to pay his legal bills.Constand is now a massage therapist in Toronto. It's not known if she will testify Tuesday or if police will instead read her statement about the encounter that night.Cosby faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of aggravated indecent assault.
