ECB extended stimulus as 'steady hand' in turbulent year-[Associated Press]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Top officials of the European Central Bank extended their stimulus efforts in December in part to protect the eurozone economy from what could be a turbulent political year at home and globally. The concerns were recorded in a written account published Thursday about the bank's Dec. 8 meeting. That's when it decided to extend its bond-purchase stimulus by nine months until the end of this year. The bank's governing council thought more stimulus would provide a "steady hand" to support the economy of the 19 countries that share the euro against "shocks emanating from the political environment at the global level and within the euro area."Elections in the Netherlands, France and possibly Italy could give populist, anti-EU and anti-euro currency forces a chance to test their strength with voters.

Cyprus leader hails 'milestone' in reunification talks-By Eric Maurice-JAN 12,17-EUOBSERVER

Valletta, Today, 08:54-The Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders have exchanged maps showing how much territory their communities would control on a reunified island, in a move that could be a major breakthrough towards a peace settlement."The submission of maps is a milestone in the history of the Cyprus problem. We continue to strive to satisfy the expectations of the Cypriot people," Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades wrote on Twitter on Wednesday (11 January).Anastasiades and his Turkish Cypriot counterpart Mustafa Akinci had been negotiating since Monday in Geneva, Switzerland, in what was considered a last-chance effort to reach an agreement.A UN-chaired multilateral conference begins on Thursday with the three powers that guarantee Cyprus's security - the UK, Greece and Turkey.Cyprus has been divided since a Turkish invasion in 1974. The current peace talks started in 2015, after a first settlement plan, proposed by the UN, failed in 2004.UN Cyprus envoy Espen Barth Eide said talks had reached a "very important and historic moment"."Never before have we had an exchange or presentation of maps created by the Cypriot delegations themselves with every sentence and comma written by Cypriots," he said on Wednesday.Last November, a previous round of talks in Switzerland between Anastasiades and Akinci had failed over the so-called territory issue, and another failure would have jeopardised the whole process.-'Not the end of the road'-Thursday's multilateral conference, however, is unlikely to produce a definitive settlement. The Greek and Turkish Cypriot have started exchanging remarks on the two maps they swapped and further discussions will be needed."It’s not the end of the road," Anastasiades spokesman told journalists. "It’s the start of negotiations on a very important chapter of the Cyprus problem."Other issues to be discussed with the guarantors are also difficult, in particular the security of the island, and the guarantee itself.Turkey still has 40,000 soldiers in the northern part of Cyprus. The Greek Cypriots wants the Turkish army to leave, while the Turkish Cypriots and Ankara want it to stay.Turkey, which will ultimately back or block any deal Akinci would be ready to make with Anastasiades, will not accept the end of the guarantee, but would be “open to a modernisation" of the security framework, Sinan Ulgen, from the Carnegie Europe think-tank, told EUobserver. The three guarantors will not be represented at the highest level on Thursday, which indicates that the talks will be mainly aimed at clearing the way to further, decisive talks between leaders. The UK, Greece and Turkey will be represented by their foreign ministers Boris Johnson, Nikos Kotzias and Mevlut Cavusoglu.-The time has come'-European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker and the EU diplomacy chief Federica Mogherini will be in Geneva."I think the time has come to reunite the island," Juncker said in Valletta on Wednesday, adding that it was "the last chance to see the island being recomposed in a normal way"."When it is about peace, you have to take the plane," he said. "I would not be happy with my own behaviour if I were to hide away."Juncker, whose commission has been involved at a technical level to prepare a reunification and the integration of the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus into EU structures, admitted that taking part in the Geneva talks was "risky"."But when it is about peace you have to take risks," he said. "When it is about peace, those who are taking no risks are taking the greater risk."

Merkel says EU 27 must show united front in Brexit talks-[Reuters]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) - The 27 members of the European Union negotiating with London on Britain's exit from the bloc must stick together and not allow themselves to be divided, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday.Merkel, speaking against the background of a planned reduction in corporation tax in Britain, also said EU members must agree on a joint approach to corporation tax."We all know that we need more harmonization," she told a joint news conference with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.Refering to Britain's decision to leave the EU and what looks like being a difficult and complex negotiating process on the divorce terms, Merkel said: "It is important that we do not allow ourselves to be divided, the 27 must act together in the negotiations."The chancellor also stressed it was important for EU member states to increase the exchange of data to improve security in the bloc, and that they should quickly implement a register of people entering and leaving.Since a Tunisian failed asylum seeker rammed a truck into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people, last month before fleeing to Italy where he was shot dead, Merkel has stepped up her calls for cross-border cooperation on security issues."Everyone sees the urgency and everyone knows that if we do not succeed, each country will introduce its own border controls and free movement won't be possible," said Merkel, adding that meant freedom of services as well as of people."It makes me optimistic that a lot of countries have sadly had the experience that terrorism is a big challenge for all of us and only cross border cooperation in the (passport free) Schengen area will help us," she said.(Reporting by Michele Land, Writing by Madeline Chambers in Berlin, Editing by Paul Carrel and Angus MacSwan)

This is crazy': High winds knock out power, force closures and cancellations-[CBC]-YAHOONEWS-January 11, 2017

High winds, rain and snow are causing problems across New Brunswick today.Winds were gusting up to 80 km/h in many parts of the province during the morning and remained strong into the afternoon, knocking out power, forcing some ferries off their runs and prompting the closure of some coastal roadways.NB Power reported nearly 1,700 customers without power over the lunch hour, which dropped to about 770 by mid-afternoon.The bulk of the outages are in the Charlotte southwest area, where about 659 homes and businesses are without electricity. The utility hopes to have power restored to most customers by 6 p.m., according to its website.Classes at Campobello Island Consolidated School were cancelled because of a power outage.Saint John Energy also reported outages in the Sandy Point Road area shortly after 10 a.m., but all customers were back online within about an hour.Coastal Transport pulled its White Head ferry out of service for the day, while the Grand Manan Adventure remained tied up in Blacks Harbour until 1:30 p.m.Bay Ferries also cancelled the 8 a.m. Fundy Rose sailing from Saint John to Digby "due to the weather."-'Dangerous conditions'-In Saint John, the city closed Red Head Road at the breakwater to through traffic "until further notice due to hazardous road conditions."Hudson Bass, who lives in the area, got out of his vehicle at the roadblock and climbed a hill to take some photographs of the waves crashing across the road."We try to take every opportunity we can to come and see [the weather]," he said. "The Bay of Fundy is not real happy today, by the sounds and the looks of the sights today."The eastbound lane of the Courtenay Bay Causeway was also closed between Crown Street and Bayside Drive, as waves crashed over the side.Shannon Merrifield hustled along Harbour Passage to avoid the salt spray from waves crashing at Long Wharf."I thought it was kind of exciting, and then the wind almost swept me away," she said."I don't think I've actually seen this much damage caused from the wind before." said Merrifield, noting it looked like parts of the cranberry-coloured trail, which stretches from the south-central peninsula to the west side, may have been ripped up by the storm.David Jewers watched the waves in the harbour from inside Market Square while waiting for a taxi."She's pretty choppy," said Jewers, looking out across the boardwalk."We don't know what to expect from one day to the next here," he said. "One day it's snowing, next day it's raining and yeah, it's pretty nasty out there today."Saint John police were advising the public to stay away from Saints Rest beach, near the Irving Nature Park. "Dangerous conditions exist," they posted on Twitter. But that didn't stop people like Emily Young. She went to the beach with her boyfriend to take pictures, but after seeing the massive waves she quickly ran back to the top of the beach."This is crazy," she said. "I got a little nervous. … My boyfriend's crazy and still standing out there."I have never seen waves like this and I've lived around here my whole life."Rob Robichaud used his lunch break to go take a look."The wonder of nature and the power and the energy that's in the Bay of Fundy — it's quite amazing," said Robichaud, estimating the waves were 10 to 15 feet high."I think it's fantastic," said Emma Weisseneder, laughing while taking photos. "I love it out here."I'm an amateur photographer and I love to take pictures and [videos] of the water."Schools in the Anglophone West School District were closed, due to icy road conditions. The Francophone South school district also closed schools in Fredericton and Oromocto.

Sudden winter conditions catch P.E.I. motorists and plow dispatchers off guard-[CBC]-YAHOONEWS-January 11, 2017

P.E.I. Transportation Minister Paula Biggar is defending a decision not to send out plows overnight Tuesday, and warning Islanders to be aware of how rapidly winter weather can change.Biggar called CBC News after people complained to CBC Radio's Island Morning about poor road conditions early Wednesday morning.Biggar said conditions are checked at 3 a.m., and plows sent out if they are required. Roads were clear at that time Wednesday. But conditions changed quickly. Biggar said she encountered some difficult driving conditions between Sherbrooke and Hunter River, and saw a couple of cars in the ditch."When the winds pick up, that can cause havoc within an hour," she said."We can't always predict exactly when to have the plow out. But normally they are always out when we are observing these conditions. You know, I would just caution people to slow down and observe that when they come into those open areas there are going to be drifts, so, not to be caught off guard."The Transportation Department said plows were sent out around 6 a.m., after calls came in from road patrols and dispatchers about deteriorating conditions.

Heavy rain, high temperatures could create hazards on roadways, rivers-'Ponding' on roadways can cause cars to hydroplane, police warn-By Andrea Janus, CBC News Posted: Jan 12, 2017 7:09 AM ET Last Updated: Jan 12, 2017 7:09 AM ET

Heavy rainfall and high temperatures across the Greater Toronto Area Thursday will make for "higher than normal water levels" and hazardous conditions along rivers and streams, Toronto and Region Conservation warned.Heavy rain began overnight, and between 10 and 25 mm could fall by mid-morning, according to Environment Canada. The daytime high is expected to hit 7 C with periods of rain ending late morning. The high temperatures and wet weather will also melt much of the snow that fell across the region on Tuesday. This will lead to high water levels and flows, and could break up ice along rivers and streams, "creating hazardous conditions," the conservation authority said in a statement."The possibility exists for flooding on roadways and in low-lying areas," the statement went on."The combination of slippery and unstable banks, unsafe ice and cold water temperature will create hazardous conditions close to any river, stream or other water bodies."Motorists are advised to stay away from flooded roads, while parents and guardians should supervise children near bodies of water and keep them away from "slippery and unstable banks."The City of Toronto winter operations Twitter feed reported "lots of ponding" on city roads Thursday morning. Drivers are asked to slow down and "take extra care around pedestrians and cyclists."Peel Regional Police also reported a lot of water on the road. "Can cause hydroplaning and unwanted splashes to pedestrians," the force tweeted, with the hashtag #berespectful.Warm weather + melting snow = Lots of water on road. Can cause hydroplaning and unwanted splashes to pedestrians#Berespectful pic.twitter.com/hq9GVfr5q6— @PeelPoliceMedia

London's Heathrow Airport cancels 80 flights on snow forecasts-[Reuters]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

LONDON (Reuters) - London's Heathrow Airport said it will cancel 80 flights out of the 1,350 scheduled on Thursday as it prepares for forecasts for snow later in the day.Heathrow, Britain and Europe's busiest airport, said that wintry weather would mean that fewer aircraft can take off and land at its two runways. The airport operates at full capacity and so has no extra room to reschedule flights during inclement conditions."We have taken the decision to reduce the flight schedule on Thursday, to allow airlines to rebook passengers onto un-allocated seats ahead of time where possible," Heathrow said in a statement, advising passengers to check before traveling. The British government gave Heathrow Airport permission to add a third runway last October but it is not due to be built until 2025.(Reporting by Sarah Young; editing by Costas Pitas)

Rains, snow to ease in U.S. West as waterways begin to recede-[Reuters]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

(Reuters) - Heavy rain and snow will begin to ease on Thursday in the U.S. West, where swollen rivers are expected to recede, forecasters said, after flooding that has forced thousands to evacuate in recent days.A foot of snow (30 cm) and possible rain showers were expected during the day in parts of the region before tapering off by Friday, the National Weather Service said."The pattern will begin to change along the West Coast over the next couple days as the string of Pacific storm systems comes to and end and drier conditions prevail," it said.A weather pattern meteorologists call an "atmospheric river" - a dense plume of moisture flowing from the tropical Pacific and into California and the West - has brought heavy snows and rains to the region over the last few weeks. The latest round of extreme precipitation forced thousands of residents in small North California communities to seek higher ground in recent days.Residents in Wilton, a community of more than 5,000 people near California's state capital, were advised to evacuate their homes because of anticipated flooding along the Cosumnes River. In wine-growing Sonoma County, north of San Francisco, authorities asked residents of 650 homes in Guerneville, California, to evacuate as the Russian River has flooded parts of the community of less than 5,000 people. The river at Guerneville peaked at 37.8 feet early Wednesday evening, nearly 6 feet above flood stage, before it began to recede. It is expected to fall back below flood stage around noon local time on Thursday, the weather service said.In Nevada, authorities on social media advised residents to remain vigilant to the threat of flooding after the Truckee River, which runs through Reno, overflowed its banks earlier this week.To the north, schools in Portland, Oregon, remained closed on Thursday as the city of more than 600,000 digs out from a blizzard that delivered roughly a foot of snow.About 6,700 customers of a local utility company remained without power early on Thursday in the Portland area after the storm knocked out electricity for more than 63,000 customers, the utility said.Ski resorts and roads in the Sierra Nevada mountains also remained closed on Thursday after more than 10 feet of snow fell in parts of the area over the last week, according to the National Weather Service.(Reporting by Brendan O'Brien in Milwaukee; Editing by Hugh Lawson)

California rainfall ebbs but flooding continues-[Reuters]-By Alex Dobuzinskis-YAHOONEWS-January 11, 2017

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The rainfall that has pummeled the U.S. West this week lightened on Wednesday but that did not keep swollen rivers from overflowing their banks in California, where water lapped up against houses in a wine-growing region, officials said.In Portland, Oregon, the city's more than 600,000 residents awoke to roughly a foot (30 cm) of snow, which led to city-wide school closures and an emergency declaration by Governor Kate Brown. This was the latest round of extreme precipitation unleashed by a weather pattern meteorologists call an "atmospheric river" - a dense plume of moisture flowing from the tropical Pacific into California and the West."All available state resources will be made available to ensure the safety of communities throughout Oregon," said Brown, urging people not to travel until roads had been cleared and services restored. The last weeks of 2016 were particularly wet for California, which has struggled through years of drought, and the rainfall has intensified in the past week, officials said.In wine-growing Sonoma County, north of San Francisco, the Russian River has been flooding since early on Monday and water was lapping at houses in low-lying areas of the town of Guerneville, said Hannah Euser, a spokeswoman for the county.Local media showed photos of people navigating flooded streets by canoe in the community of less than 5,000 people.Authorities asked residents of 650 homes in Guerneville to seek higher ground even as officials assess damage to determine how many houses were flooded, Euser said. The rain had stopped by midday on Wednesday but the floodwaters were not expected to recede until late on Thursday, she said.Concerns about flooding have also led to the evacuation of about 600 homes in Madera County in central California, Jonathan Gudel, a spokesman for the state Governor's Office of Emergency Services, said. The nearby Yosemite National Park was open again on Wednesday, after precipitation and rockfalls caused road closures there earlier this week, park officials said in a statement.Ray Standley, 76, owner of the General Store in nearby Fish Camp which depends on visitors to Yosemite to support local businesses, said the rain had washed away most of the snow in town."Thank goodness they've reopened now, so we should be good for the holiday coming on Monday," he said by phone.Near California's state capital, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday advised residents of Wilton, a community of more than 5,000 people, to evacuate their homes because of anticipated flooding along the Cosumnes River. The extent of damage in Wilton was not immediately clear.During all the rainfall, a small tornado touched down in the Sacramento area on Tuesday, twisting two metal awnings and stripping limbs off trees, Weather Prediction Center meteorologist Bob Oravec said. The National Weather Service had several flood advisories in effect on Wednesday for areas of Northern California, along with winter storm and avalanche warnings for the Sierra Nevada region around Lake Tahoe, where up to 7 inches of snow was forecast to fall by Thursday afternoon. The rainfall along the U.S. West Coast was weakening on Wednesday, Oravec said. The weather service expected it to end by Thursday night.Coastal parts of California could receive up to 2 inches (5 cm) of rain on Wednesday, which is significantly lighter than the 5 inches seen during periods of heavy rain in the past week, said Bruce Sullivan of the Weather Prediction Center. In Nevada, authorities on social media advised residents to remain vigilant to the threat of flooding, after the Truckee River, which runs through Reno, overflowed its banks earlier this week.(Reporting by Alex Dobuzinskis; Additional reporting by Brendan O'Brien in Milwaukee and Sharon Bernstein in Sacramento, California; Editing by Lisa Shumaker and Richard Chang)

Earthquake preparations included in Nunavut's emergency plans-[CBC]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit near Resolute Sunday evening left some people asking if Nunavummiut were prepared."It raises a lot of questions," asked Larry Audaluk, a Grise Ford resident, on CBC Nunavut's talk-back line. "What's going to happen? How do we prepare for it? What would happen if it is in summertime? Would it create tsunamis ... like in other places."There aren't specific earthquake preparation plans in Nunavut, said Ed Zebedee, the director of protection services for the territory. Instead, the territory plans for a variety of emergencies."We do training in the communities for emergency management," he said. "It's based having the communities prepared to respond to an emergency whether it's an earthquake, flood, fire, whatever."It's a week long training that gets updated every few years, so people in the community know how to set up, who is in charge, what the response will look like. The goal of emergency management is to ensure everyone is prepared for an emergency by having everything they need for the first 72 hours. That includes water, food, clothing and cash, Zebedee said."It takes time to respond, especially in a remote community and so people have to be prepared to take care of themselves until we can respond," he said. There are about 40 earthquakes a year in Nunavut, Zebedee said, but most are less than 4.0 magnitude. There is no way to predict them.According to the Geological Survey of Canada, most of the earthquakes will happen in Baffin Bay."Our biggest concern has always been tsunamis and we've done a study with the Geological Survey and they don't believe we have the proper geology to have a tsunami here," he said.

POISONED WATERS

HOSEA 4:1-3
1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land,(EARTH) because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2  By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3  Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

ZEPHANIAH 1:2-3
2  I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD.
3  I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.

EZEKIEL 32:6-9
6  I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of thee.
7  And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.
8  All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD.
9  I will also vex the hearts of many people, when I shall bring thy destruction among the nations, into the countries which thou hast not known.

REVELATION 8:8-11
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood:(bitter,Poisoned) and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.(poisoned)

REVELATION 16:3-7
3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.(enviromentalists won't like this result)
4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
6 For they(False World Church and Dictator) have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

No sign of Japan-related radiation found in Alaska waters-[The Canadian Press]-YAHOONEWS-January 11, 2017

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — State officials have announced that tests of Alaska seafood continue to show no detectable amounts of radiation, five years after a deadly earthquake and tsunami set off a nuclear disaster at a Japanese power plant.More than 16,000 people were killed in 2011 after Japan's 9.1-magnitude earthquake, which led to nuclear meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.Since then, U.S. and international agencies have been conducting tests to determine the health of marine life along the U.S. and Canada, KTVA-TV reported (http://bit.ly/2iZxoG5). Testing regions in Alaska include the Aleutian Islands and Bering Sea, Bristol Bay, the Gulf of Alaska and the southeast region. The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation said Monday testing last year confirmed Alaska seafood hasn't been affected by radiation from the nuclear plant."Testing performed in previous years showed no detectable levels of Fukushima-related radionuclides," according to a statement from the department. "Testing in 2016 also confirmed the quality and health of Alaska seafood has not been impacted by the Fukushima nuclear disaster."While Alaska appears to be in the clear for now, the department has detected radiation in Canada and said radionuclides have been found in "ultra-low" levels in samples from Tillamook Bay and Gold Beach in Oregon."These findings do not indicate a threat to Alaska waters or the safety of consuming marine fish. DEC, in co-operation with its partners, currently deems fish and shellfish from Alaska waters unaffected by the nuclear reactor damage in Japan," the statement says.State officials are still advising Alaska residents to be aware that "fish and shellfish are still subject to local toxins, such as those that cause paralytic shellfish poisoning."___Information from: KTVA-TV, http://www.ktva.com-The Associated Press.

Church members join relatives in grief, anger at gunman-[The Canadian Press]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

CHARLESTON, S.C. — It wasn't just the family members of the nine people Dylann Roof killed in a Charleston, South Carolina, church who suffered. Their church family grieved too.Along with the 32 family members of victims, three people connected to Emanuel AME Church spoke as Roof was formally sentenced to death Wednesday in federal court."When you have attended nine wakes and nine funerals, it is heartbreaking," said Ruby Martin, the most senior member of the church who admitted it took her several weeks after the 2015 shootings before she could go back. There were laughter and tears; love and hate; anger and forgiveness; despair and hope at Wednesday's hearing. Some shouted at Roof, wishing him to be condemned to hell. Others offered forgiveness and one said she would visit him in prison as he awaits execution for the slaughter.A jury sentenced Roof to death Tuesday on hate crime and obstruction of religion charges. U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel couldn't change it, but his words left little doubt he felt death was justified. "This hate, this viciousness, this moral depravity will not go unanswered," he said. The 22-year-old avowed white supremacist didn't look at Gergel, just like he refused to meet the gaze of anyone who spoke Wednesday, including Janet Scott, an aunt of 26-year-old Tywanza Sanders, the youngest victim killed in the June 17, 2015, massacre."Dylann," Scott said quietly as she started speaking. "Dylann! DYLANN!" she said, shouting it the last time. Toward the end of her remarks, she said, "I wish you would look at me, boy."Scott talked about her nephew's "great big heart," which could not be donated because of the police investigation.Roof didn't take an opportunity to speak Wednesday. The day before, just before jurors deliberated his sentence, he didn't ask for mercy or apologize, instead saying he still "felt like I had to do it."Some of the relatives looked directly at Roof. Others chose to look at jurors, who did not have to be in court Wednesday but told the judge they wanted to attend.Sheila Capers, the sister-in-law of Cynthia Hurd, said she prayed for Roof's soul to be saved."If at any point before you are sentenced and you're in prison and you want me to come and pray with you, I will do that," Capers said.Felicia Sanders, who survived the attack, brought the bullet-torn, bloodstained Bible she had with her the night of the shooting. She told Roof he still lives in her head, and that when she hears a balloon pop or fireworks or even the soft thud of a falling acorn, she returns to that night."Most importantly, I can't shut my eyes to pray," Sanders said.On the night of the shooting, Roof sat through a 45-minute Bible study session at the black church known as Mother Emanuel with 12 others. He opened fire as they stood and closed their eyes for a final prayer. In all, he fired 77 shots. Each victim was hit at least five times.Three people survived. Roof told one of them he was sparing her life so she could tell the world he was killing the worshippers there because he hated black people. When he was arrested, Roof told FBI agents he wanted the shootings to bring back segregation or perhaps start a race war. Instead, the slayings had a unifying effect as South Carolina removed the Confederate flag from its Statehouse for the first time in more than 50 years. Other states followed suit, taking down Confederate banners and monuments. Roof had posed with the flag in photos. The jury convicted Roof last month of all 33 federal charges he faced. He insisted he was not mentally ill and did not call any witnesses or present any evidence.Roof, who also faces murder charges in state court, plans to appeal the federal case. Prosecutors say he will remain jailed in Charleston until the state charges are resolved. No trial date has been set.___Associated Press writer Alex Sanz contributed to this report.___Follow Jeffrey Collins on Twitter at http://twitter.com/JSCollinsAP . REVELATION 19:17-18
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;(AGAINST ALL NATIONS ARMIES THAT COME AGAINST JERUSALEM AND ISRAEL)
18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

EZEKIEL 38:1-7
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal,(TOBOLSK) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:TOBOLSK)
4 And I (GOD) will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE RUSSIA-MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY) of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.(AFRICAN MUSLIMS,SUDAN,TUNESIA ETC)
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

EZEKIEL 39:1-8
1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal: (TUBOLSK)
2 And I will turn thee back,(RUSSIA-ARAB MUSLIM ISRAEL HATERS) and leave but the sixth part of thee,(5/6TH OR 300 MILLION DEAD RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIMS I BELIEVE) and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR ATOMIC BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.

Activists urge U.N. to cite Russia, Iran war crimes in Syria-[Reuters]-By Stephanie Nebehay-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

GENEVA (Reuters) - Syrian activists say they have given U.N. investigators evidence of alleged war crimes committed by Russia and Iranian-backed militia in the battle for the Syrian city of Aleppo, calling for them to face justice for killing civilians and other atrocities. The United Nations Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Syria, which began collecting testimony and evidence five years ago for future prosecutions, has already shared some confidential files with national authorities pursuing foreign fighters.Fadel Abdul Ghany, head of the Syrian Network for Human Rights, and Husam Alkatlaby, director of the Violations Documentation Center, met U.N. investigators on Wednesday to press the case for probing crimes committed during the long siege and recapture of rebel-held eastern Aleppo last month.Syria, and its allies Russia, have dismissed accusations of abuses or war crimes.Abdul Ghany said activists "found a similarity between the violations committed by the Russians and the regime, and sometimes the Russians exceed the regime in some kinds of violations"."We recorded the killing of 1,305 civilians at the hands of Russian forces," he told Reuters, referring to victims of hundreds of Russian air strikes between July and December 2016. Roughly one-third of fatalities were children."All incidents we provided are violations of IHL (international humanitarian law). Lots of them amount to war crimes, especially targeting the vital civilian centers, especially when we are speaking about hospitals."After months of bombardment and a final few weeks of intense air strikes and Syrian army advances on the besieged part of Aleppo, a local ceasefire was reached on Dec 15 which allowed tens of thousands of civilians and fighters to leave."The Russian air force was trying to target specific points, for example hospitals, schools or whatever. They fly at higher altitude (than the Syrian air force) - this comes through in the testimonies, the interviews," Alkatlaby said.Since the Russian air campaign began on Sept 30, 2015, Russian forces have killed "a minimum" of 4,000 Syrians in all, Abdul Ghany said. "We have all documented, by name, details, date, photos."-"IRAN'S COMPLICITY"-The activists, joined by the "White Helmets" civil defense teams and the Independent Doctors Association, documented 31 cluster munition attacks in Aleppo by Russian forces and three by Syrian government forces, as well as their use of banned incendiary weapons, Abdul Ghany said.Syria’s government rejects accusations it has carried out abuses, denying reports of torture and extrajudicial killings, the targeting of civilians and use of chemical and incendiary weapons and improvised munitions known as barrel bombs.Russia says it only bombs militants, and that accusations of war crimes against it are part of a Western-backed propaganda campaign. Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov has said the White Helmets organization is close to the jihadist group formerly known as the Nusra Front."There is clear evidence that the attacks by Russia on Syrian civilians constitute war crimes," the four groups said in a joint letter to the COI's chairman Paulo Pinheiro, whose team is expected to issue a report on Aleppo in February."We also urge the Commission to explore fully all credible accounts of Iran’s complicity in war crimes in Aleppo," it said, citing the "central role" of Iranian-backed militias in enforcing the siege and preventing civilians from fleeing.Iran, which has backed President Bashar al-Assad with weapons, oil shipments and military advisers, denies any involvement in killing of civilians and emphasizes Tehran’s determination to support Assad in his "fight against terrorism".Abdul Ghany said a special tribunal should be set up to try war crimes, since Russia would veto attempts to send the issue to the International Criminal Court."Now we need from the COI to push forward toward this mechanism in order to prosecute the perpetrators. Otherwise there is no meaning for all of this documentation work."(Additional reporting by Angus McDowall in Beirut, Andrew Osborn in Moscow and Parisa Hafezi; Editing by Dominic Evans)

Avoiding China's wrath, Philippines puts off upgrades to South China Sea isles-[Reuters]-By Manuel Mogato-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines is deferring plans to repair and upgrade features it occupies in the disputed South China Sea, the country's military chiefs said on Thursday, to avoid provoking China while the two traditional foes seek to bury the hatchet. The Philippines would continue to observe a moratorium on construction in the Spratly islands that it adopted while an international tribunal handled an arbitration case it lodged against Beijing in 2013.Even though a ruling handed down in July last year went in favor of the Philippines, its military top brass felt the timing was not right to start upgrades. The decision to defer upgrades was to avoid "any aggressive action in the West Philippine Sea," Military chief General Eduardo Ano told a news conference at an army base, using the name by which the Philippines refers to the South China Sea.He said the move aimed to preserve a new era of friendlier relations with China under President Rodrigo Duterte, who decided to engage Beijing, rather than confront it in the wake of a arbitral award it bitterly opposed.Duterte says he is in no hurry to discuss that ruling and will do so only when China is ready. The Philippines has been occupying nine features in the Spratlys, including a submerged reef on which a rusting transport ship ran aground in the late 1990s.The Philippines has by far the weakest defense structures in the disputed area and most facilities are dilapidated. Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam and China also occupy areas of the contested archipelago.China has reclaimed seven reefs, building man-made islands with anti-aircraft and anti-missile batteries. Satellite imagery shows development has continued lately, despite the arbitral ruling declaring that illegal.Vietnam, which occupies the largest number of features in the South China Sea, has also enhanced its facilities."I don't know if we can now lift the moratorium," Defense Minister Delfin Lorenzana told reporters. "We're on status quo for now."Lorenzana said the government had allocated 800 million pesos ($16.15 million) to upgrade an eroded runway on an airfield on Thitu Island, but that work would not happen soon.Rex Tillerson, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of state, told U.S. legislators he wanted to send China a clear signal to stop building islands and leave those it has already made.(Editing by Martin Petty and Clarence Fernandez)

South Korea considering complaint to China over THAAD retaliation-[Reuters]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea may complain to China about actions perceived to have been taken in retaliation for a South Korean decision last year to deploy a U.S. anti-missile system, its trade minister said on Thursday."We plan to present the relation between China's actions that have been pointed out by our companies and the THAAD deployment during a meeting on Friday regarding the free trade agreement between South Korea and China," Trade Minister Joo Hyung-hwan told parliament.Joo said South Korea's concern over China's behaviour would be expressed at the meeting.South Korea's finance minister said this month China was suspected to be taking indirect action against the deployment of the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system as China worries its powerful radar can penetrate its territory.Beijing has objected to the deployment, which South Korea and the United States say is only aimed at defending against any threat from North Korea.China recently rejected applications by South Korean carriers to add charter flights between the two countries.Finance Minister Yoo Il-ho later said the government was looking into whether China's decision was related to the deployment of the anti-missile system.China has not commented on South Korea's concern about retaliation.(This story removes quotation marks and attribution in headline.) France says Syria talks must convene quickly under United Nations-[Reuters]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

PARIS (Reuters) - France said on Thursday Syrian peace talks should resume as quickly as possible under the auspices of the United Nations and appeared to question plans for Russian-backed discussions on the subject in Kazakhstan.Syria's government and rebel forces started a ceasefire on Dec. 30 as a first step towards face-to face negotiations, backed by Turkey and Russia, and due to take place in the Kazakh capital Astana. The date and its participants remain unclear. The United Nations had previously led talks in Geneva, but after several fruitless rounds and an escalation of violence in the six-year civil war that has benefited Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his backers, Moscow and Ankara agreed in December to launch new peace efforts."Negotiations have to resume as quickly as possible," President Francois Hollande told the foreign diplomatic corps in a New Year address."They have to be led under the auspices of the United Nations within the framework agreed in Geneva in 2012."Moscow has said the proposed Astana talks would complement the United Nations. However, European diplomats and opposition sources have suggested only some armed groups will be invited with political opposition representation limited despite discussions on aspects such as the constitution.Hollande, a key backer of the Syrian opposition, said there was no need to go over the framework for talks."The parameters have been set so what needs to be done is to invite the concerned parties, all the parties, except fundamentalist and extremist groups, and to act in the Geneva framework," Hollande said.U.N. Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura has said he wants to convene a new round of talks during February.(Reporting by John Irish; Editing by Andrew Callus)

Erdogan says Turkish economy also under 'terror' attack-Associated Press--YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the country's economy is under a "terror" attack similar to the wave of violent attacks that have targeted Turkey in recent months.Speaking to village administrators Thursday, Erdogan asked citizens to continue selling dollars and euros to counter the threat. The country has over the past year endured more than thirty major attacks linked primarily to Kurdish and Islamic State militants. The insecurity, coupled with political instability that climaxed with a failed coup last July, has taken a toll on the economy.Turkey's currency hit an all-time low against the dollar this week.Erdogan said: "There is no difference, where aims are concerned, between a terrorist with a gun and bomb in his hand and a terrorist who has dollars, euros and interest rates."

Report: More than 16,000 Iraqis killed by violence in 2016-[Associated Press]-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

IRBIL, Iraq (AP) — Violence and military operations claimed the lives of more than 16,000 civilians in Iraq last year, a research group that tracks civilian deaths in Iraq said Thursday, making it one of the deadliest years for war-weary Iraqis since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion. In its annual report, the London-based Iraqi Body Count reported that 16,361 civilian Iraqis died in 2016, with the northern province of Nineveh the worst hit at 7,431 people killed. The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, was next with 3,714 civilians killed, the research showed.Nineveh's capital Mosul and surrounding areas fell into the hands of the Islamic State group in mid-2014 during an onslaught that ended with the seizure of territory in northern and western Iraq. Iraqi troops have since dislodged IS militants from major areas in a massive military operation that started in mid-October.Comparatively, in 2015 17,578 people were killed and in 2014, 20,218 were killed, the report noted. The group considers five broad cause-of-death categories: executions by militants; suicide attacks; bomb explosions; gunfire not involving execution, and air attacks and shelling. Last year, the greatest causes of death were execution and gunfire, which accounted for more than half of all civilian deaths, it said.Iraqi Body Count, which began documenting civilian deaths in Iraq after 2003, compiles reports from media outlets, non-governmental organizations and Iraqi government sources. The report comes only days after the United Nations in Iraq released a report that found 6,878 civilians were killed by violence in 2016. But the U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq, known as UNAMI, said the numbers didn't include casualties among civilians in Iraq's western Anbar province for the months of May, July, August and December. It said it was hindered from verifying casualty numbers in conflict areas and those killed from secondary effects of violence. The deadliest IS attack came in July, when a massive suicide bombing in a bustling market area in central Baghdad killed almost 300 people, the bloodiest single attack in the capital in 13 years of war.

France restricts travel for minors over jihadi trip fears-[Associated Press]-LORI HINNANT-YAHOONEWS-January 12, 2017

PARIS (AP) — France's government has quietly backtracked on a policy that allowed children to leave the country without their parents' permission, after years of complaints from families of radicalized teens who left to join extremist groups. The new rules requiring parental permission go into effect Sunday, five years after the government lifted the restriction with little fanfare, citing a need to streamline bureaucracy. At the time, the war in Syria was picking up and France became Europe's largest source of recruits in the war zone, notably for the Islamic State group. Families said they were blindsided when their teenage sons and daughters were allowed to pass through border control no questions asked and even leave Europe's passport-free zone for Turkey."We have to do everything we can to prevent minors from going into the terrorist zone," lawmaker Patrick Hetzel told France 3.But critics say the reversal comes far too late.Samia Maktouf, a lawyer for two families that sued the government over their teenagers' departures for Syria, has called for this policy shift for years."Unfortunately, they're taking action rather late," she told The Associated Press. "Four hundred French minors are now at the gates of Hell."
